Pop in to our Pop-up shop...

Filled with lovely cards, gifts, prints and artist multiples made by Jamaica Street Artists
(and associates like me!)
We are only open for business until 23rd of December, Wednesday to Sunday so come and visit us soon.
So many gorgeous little things. We love the owls.
Here are my little goodies. I've made a few extras for the shop: envelopes made from the pages of withdrawn library books and 'scrooge gift-tags' made from the pages of a copy of 'A Christmas Carol'.
And the new book of course....
If you have a search around in the browsers you will find a few of my sketches at bargain prices along with loads of beautiful and fun prints. Something for everyone and some fantastic cards.

Origami Library

I've been having a bit of fun with some of the pages of the books I collect that have been withdrawn from a library - algebra birds, poetry birds and Solomon's song birds.... These lovely birds are going to be used in the decorations for a wedding in August, but I've also been thinking of making some to sell at art fairs.

It's such a beautiful set of pictures, taken on a wide-format camera and then hand printed I think. They have a quality you just can't replicate. What a treat. Thanks Tom!

The Winners!

Thank you so much to all the poets who sent in entries to the 'Unsaid Words' Poetry Competition. We can now announce the winners.

Norton Hodges
Luke Mundy
Cathy F Wilson
Gwen Seabourne
Octavia Cox
Genevieve Claire
Dave Wood
... will all have poems published in our up coming publication 'Unsaid Words'.

The poets were asked to write works inspired by a collection of unsaid words which have been contributed by the public over the last two years as part of an artwork by Sarah J Trigg.

All the things you wish you said but you never did or things you just forgot to say....

These unsaid words have now been used to inspire a fascinating collection of poems which will soon be published both in a paperback and a hardback edition for Trigger Editions. The expected publication date is late September so keep an eye on this blog for updates on how it's coming along.

Many thanks also to Naomi Banks for all her hard work judging entries and giving advice.

New Books

These new 'Blank Books' are made with from a collection of blank pages from withdrawn library books. I've only made a few just to try out the idea which I've been thinking about for a while. I'm curious to see what their new owners decide to write in them. At the moment they are like half complete art works.

As with my 'Worth less' and 'Price less' bookmarks, the book covers are made from hand-made paper formed from pulped library books. You can still see individual letters, words and fragments of binding cloth set into the paper.

We are selling these Blank Books in a set of two held in a case also made from the library books. You can view them in our online shop for more info.

Paper making

125 bookmarks made, just another 80-odd more to go!

This weekend I've been learning how to make paper (so much fun!). A lovely lady called Julie Roberts has been showing me the techniques. I wanted to make paper out of the withdrawn library books and 'Library dust' I've been collecting. I am so pleased with the results. We pulped most of the paper down to a stage where you could only see individual letters and then sprinkled in my Library Dust' - all the bits of brittle paper, broken leather and library paraphernalia I've picked up from the floor. The next stage will be embossing some text in gold on to one side.... might take some experimenting to get that right.

100 are to be used for Bookmarks VIII Escaping the Library System 2010-2011 and will be given away for free. I am also making another hundred which will be a little different and available from Trigger Editions at various artist book fairs over the next year. More pictures and details coming soon......

First Entries

The first entries to the Unsaid Words poetry competition have started to come in; many thanks. We're being very good and not reading them until after the deadline so that the poems remain completely anonymous until we have finished the judging.  I'm itching to look at them though! After all the time I've spent collecting the Unsaid Words and chatting to the people who have contributed them, I am so excited to read what the poets create.

Made with my Psalm Name-Labels

Here is an example of a gift I made for a friend recently using my 'Psalm Name-Labels'. It is a gorgeous set of three vests for a newborn. The verses on top are from psalm 139 which inspired the name labels.

If you have some of my name labels please send me photos of what you do with them. I'd love to see your projects and put them up on the blog to give other people ideas. Happy creating!
Psalm Name-Labels are on sale at the various art fairs Trigger Editions visits or can be ordered by e-mailing Sarah J Trigg directly.

Solihull Book Art Fair

Today I've been collecting more contributions to my 'Unsaid Words' project in Solihull. Thanks to everyone who wrote something for me.

Soon I'll be launching a poetry competition inspired by my growing collection of 'unsaid words' (things you wish you had said or forgot to say). The plan is to print and publish a limited edition book of poems to be sold alongside the books of amalgamated pages of viewers contributions. So watch this space for details.
